Since 2008, the Hessian Ministry of the Interior and Sport has published an annual economic analysis of the German gambling market, the so-called Annual Report of the Gambling Supervisors of the Federal States. The report provides an overview of the supply and the size of the segments in the legal and illegal German gambling market.
Annual Report 2020 of the Gambling Supervisors of the Federal States
For 2020, the volume of the German gambling market in terms of gross gaming revenues was €11.680 million, with permitted gambling accounting for a share of approximately 87%. Partly due to the Corona pandemic, the market volume of the gambling market in 2020 decreased by twelve percent compared to 2019. In the process, the gambling market shifted by 4% towards the permitted market.
The ratio of stationary to virtual machine gambling was 81% to 19% in 2020. Compared to 2019, the share of virtual machine gambling grew by 4%.
