The Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL) is bringing on board an experienced and nationally recognised expert in gambling law on 1 July 2022.

On 1 July 2022, Nadja Wierzejewski will become head of department responsible for combating unauthorised gambling on the internet and advertising for it. The lawyer has been head of gambling supervision at the Rhineland-Palatinate Supervisory and Service Directorate (ADD) in Trier since 2008 and brings with her many years of experience in the area of enforcement against illegal gambling offers. In addition to regular controls, the focus in the fight against illegal gambling is primarily on the implementation of the enforcement instruments IP Blocking and Payment Blocking. In her new role, Nadja Wierzejewski will also be responsible for the transnational gambling supervision system (LUGAS).

Background information

On 1 July 2022, the competences and corresponding enforcement instruments for combating illegal gambling will be bundled for the first time in the GGL. In addition to the creation of a legal market, this is an essential building block for the successful regulation of the gambling market.

In order to inform about the concrete approach in combating illegal gambling and the use of enforcement tools such as IP Blocking and Payment Blocking, the authority invites representatives of the press to

a digital press conference on Friday, 8 July 2022, 10:00 am.

Board members Ronald Benter and Benjamin Schwanke will explain the enforcement approach and present the Authority's priorities in the fight against illegal gambling. Afterwards, they will be available for questions.
